Job Description:
Bend BioScience is focused on research, development, and clinical production of non-sterile drug delivery technologies, drug products, and intermediates for the pharmaceutical industry. In this role, you will design and conduct experiments with the goal of progressing robust formulations across all stages of the clinical lifecycle. A fundamental understanding of materials science and chemistry will be used to design and develop formulations ranging from intermediates to finished drug products. An expertise in manufacturing and process understanding for intermediates through finished dosage forms will be used to ensure robust process design.

*Please note: We will be defining titles for this position based on candidates experience and expertise; Associate, Senior, or Principal Formulation Scientist.

Formulations scientists will be responsible to progress compounds collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams by:
• Designing, understanding, and/or optimizing target product profiles for pharmaceutical programs
• Designing and optimizing formulations using chemistry, materials science, and pharmaceutical knowledge, scientific fundamentals, and experience
• Understanding formulation performance, material characteristics, and the impact of process / manufacturing techniques
• Developing and improving formulations across performance, stability, process, and manufacturing considerations
• Composing experiments targeted at challenging formulation attributes and building predictive models for performance and stability
• Understanding process and manufacturing considerations to design robust formulations for all phases of the clinical lifecycle
• Planning and optimizing workplans and experimental/process design to ensure informative outcomes
• Demonstrating an aptitude to work from a model to develop workplans specific to addressing problem statements
• Designing and executing experiments, ranging from process development to materials characterization, and ensuring accurate interpretation and outcome analysis
• Leading client meetings to present scientific data supporting program progression and problem solving
• Communicating scientific outcomes clearly with the internal Bend Bioscience team and client teams
• Enabling challenging compounds and innovative technologies with an entrepreneurial spirit and determined approach

Experience Requirements:
• BS/BA in chemistry, engineering, pharmaceuticals, or related field with minimum 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry with a focus on formulation and process design or closely related field
• MS/PhD in chemistry, engineering, pharmaceuticals, or related field with minimum 3 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry with a focus on formulation and process design or closely related field
• Experience with analytical chemistry techniques and methods as they relate to the analysis of small molecule drug substance and drug product (HPLC, dissolution, differential scanning calorimetry, Karl Fischer, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy)
• Experience with manufacturing equipment and critical processing parameters of enabled formulations (spray drying) and oral solid dosage forms (Tablets/Capsules) including scale-up and support for GMP manufacturing
